Shimla is a city located in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It was originally known as Shyamala and was a small village in the mid-19th century. The town came into prominence when the British made it the summer capital of British India in 1864, due to its cool climate and scenic beauty.

The British developed Shimla into a thriving hill station, complete with luxurious hotels, golf courses, and a polo ground. The town became a hub for the British Raj and served as the headquarters for the Indian army during World War II.

Shimla was also the site of several important events in India's struggle for independence. In 1906, the Indian National Congress held its annual session in Shimla, and it was here that the famous Congress resolution was passed, calling for self-rule for India.
