The mighty Clogs!
Clogiron – 2/11/2018 - The Priory, Little Wymondley
Once upon a time, there was an acoustic folk band named Clogiron. They played the folk clubs, including TwickFolk, and were happy. Then one day, Tim the guitarist bought an electric guitar and amplifier and all of a sudden: Clogiron were Folk Rock! Along with Tim, guitarist and singer Chris and Daren the drummer was an up-and-coming author named Ken Follett. Much later, they acquired a third guitarist by the name of Paul, giving them the three-guitar sound much loved by fans of American country rock. And yet, they don’t play ‘Freebird’.

It was when TwickFolk’s very own Paul Vile joined the band that I became involved. Paul had been doing sound for them as he knew the guys from their acoustic days. When he was drafted onto the stage they needed a sound man and I gamely/ foolishly took on the challenge. The prospect of being paid in wine was in no way pivotal in my decision. That was back in 2016 and I’ve been on tour with them ever since. Thankfully the tour schedule averages three gigs every two years, so it’s not as gruelling as some.

This year’s concert was the annual Stevenage Community Trust charity shin-dig. Being a pillar of the community, Mr. Follett is part of the organising committee and after the charity auction and the posh nosh, the tables are cleared for Colgiron. These days they are a pub-rock band – a mix of songs from the Stones to Wheatus, via the New York Dolls. The evening raised an impressive amount of money so was a definite success. Musically the band has been improved by the constant touring dint of rehearsals and along with the Clogettes (?) on dancing for the TimeWarp it was all good fun.
Long may the tour continue!

It should be noted that there are no videos of Clogiron on the interweb. Anything you find is a different (inferior) band of a similar name.

So they were playing just down the road from me! I guess it wasn't a public gig. Can you not sneak a bit of video at the next gig? I would think function bands would want something online for clients to check out.

I was going to do a video but the sound desk was right next to the stage (a lousy spot for sound mixing but not our choice), so it wouldn't have been much cop.
The guys are playing for fun these days - I think a couple of 'em have more serious bands as well. Paul does, and Daren. Of course they all have real jobs, apart from Ken.
I don't know how much the tickets were bit they won't have been cheap - charity fundraiser and all that!
You live in a lovely part of the country(although in November on a Friday evening I only see it in the dark).

You're very welcome to stop by if you are in the area with some time to spare.
