When I left school you could ride up to 250cc on a provisional. I know its 125cc now, I guess there may have been too many accidents.

I think the laws have changed a lot. There was another guy in the club who had an older 125 that was more powerful, but that was allowed. There was also the thing with sidecars where people had these minimal sidecar things that allowed them to ride a bigger bike. I rode my 100 for quite a while. Just realised I missed some detail that I'll add to the post.

Up to February 1983 learner motorcycle riders could ride motorcycles with an engine capacity up to 250cc. In February 1983 the law changed limiting learner motorcycle riders to 125cc.

A kid I went to school with rolled up in a 250cc Suzuki at my first job (Asda). We all gaped at the power and ferocity of the beast. Better hope he passed his test, it would be his for just a few years.
