Florida Shooting - Fear, Manipulation, Misleading Informations

I had scheduled two articles for yesterday, and day before that. Just before publication, I've heard about the school shooting with one victim in Florida and I decided to postpone that. Today morning I know, that aftermath of this tragedy is much more devastating.

My thoughts and prayers are with families and friends of victims of this unbelievable tragedy. As a gun owner and competitive shooter I feel deeply sorry, that thing that we use to train our body and mind came to hands of the mentally sick person. I can't express my sorrow, while I read about this tragedy in morning news.

In shitshow that happened on many websites (I wouldn't call that debate), one picture got my special attention

At first, I was terrified. How could I miss 18 school shootings in one and a half month? That must be horrible, that this level of violence is happening in US schools. I did a bit of research and on one of the polish sites, I found completed list of 17 shootings (one in Florida was 18th).

School Shooting definition

Before we will start with describing those, we have to establish the definition of shooting. Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund claims:

Everytown uses a straightforward, fair, and comprehensive definition for a school shooting: any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds, as documented by the press and, when necessary, confirmed through further inquiries with law enforcement or school officials.

So it's really far, from what comes to mind, when you think about shooting.

List of 17 school shootings in the US since 1st Jan 2018

1. 3.01.2018 - the military veteran man died from a self-inflicted wound after hours of negotiation. He killed himself on elementary school parking lot.
   Suicide, one victim

2. 4.01.2018 - one bullet hit the school’s administrative offices.
   No one was injured

3. 9.01.2018 - suicide in school bathrooms.
   Suicide, one victim

4. 10.01.2018 - bullet broke window in classroom. The shot was taken from outside of a school.
   No one was injured

5. 10.01.2018 - class with guns. The student pulled the trigger because he thought that gun he holds is fake. In fact, it was a real gun that belongs to the instructor. Shot a hole in the wall, crossed over and broke a window.
   No one was injured

6. 15.01.2018 - black sedan entered the Strickland Hall parking lot and possibly exchanged gunfire with a person who was in the parking lot. It is believed the black sedan was occupied by two subjects. The suspects in the sedan crashed into a retaining wall, causing damage to the retaining wall and the vehicle
   No one was injured

7. 20.01.2018 -A Winston-Salem State University football player was fatally shot early Saturday morning at a party at Wake Forest
   One victim died in hospital

8. 22.01.2018 - teenager shoot girl in cafeteria. She was his only victim.
   One victim, injured

9. 22.01.2018 - Police said someone in a dark pickup truck drove by The NET Charter High School, in the 6600 block of Franklin Avenue, and fired while a group of students was in front of the school, in the parking lot.
   One victim, flesh wound

10. 23.01.2018 - mass shooting
    2 dead, 18 injured

11. 25.01.2018 - argue, shots fired in the air
    No one was injured

12. 26.01.2018 - shots from the car. The only victim was wall of the school
    No one was injured

13. 31.01.2018 - shooting at the parking lot near the school.
    1 dead

14. 1.02.2018 - twelve-year-old shot probably accidentally. Police claim, that it was an accident.
    4 injured

15. 5.02.2018 - teenager shot twice in the chest on a parking lot near the school.
    1 injured

16. 5.02.2018 - 3rd graded pulled the trigger in officer's holster. Bullet hit the floor.
    No one was injured

17. 8.02.2018 - probably accidental shot. found hole in flor. A kid probably kept the gun in a backpack, and it accidentally fired.
    No one was injured

18. 15.02.2018 Florida shooting.
    17 dead, many injured

It's sad, that during such unspeakable tragedy people use lies to convince others to their beliefs.

I can't imagine, how bad person you have to be, to spread fear with manipulation, day after such tragedy
