Shop shots week 7. Another boring week, but quite productive.

That's a mighty big car, it's a 1964 Mercury Maurader. We don't know what happened to it, but there are many wires melted together throughout the engine bay and interior.

Follow along in my weeks journey as an automotive service technician.

Nobody guessed what this part is from last week . It is an engine block heater for a Toyota.20171123_212434.jpg

I'm not a fan of diesel vehicles. I Don't really have a real reason why, I just don't like them.
Sometimes though I do have to service a diesel car or truck. Last week I had to check how much vacuum was in the fuel suction system of a Chev truck with a 6.6L diesel, that requires removing a valve deep in a hole-of course I don't have the tool to do that. A little ingenuity and a brake line can be a tool.

This is an overwhelming image for some. 4 camshafts from the same engine, all different.
Hopefully my apprentice won't forget how they go back together...

Machining brake drums and rotors is becoming a lost skill. Perhaps our throw away society is partly to blame, call me crazy but I like to reuse something if possible.

Action shot
It may be a little hard to tell, but the brake drum is spinning at 180 revolutions per minute and a cutting bit is matching a fresh&true surface for new brake shoes to contact.

Just like new!

The '70 mustang is coming along nicely. I have many days of wiring into this unit, I think the end is near.

This radio has some confusing labels.

So, 7 weeks into this ramble. Is anyone actually following along? Car stuff doesn't seem to go over to well on the blockchain. I do have an idea for a crazy car build at home, is there any interest in that?

I like your car posts! I don't understand much about them but i like the pictures!

G’Day Ed always good to read a blog or 2 from you. You blog about cars, I blog about homesteading to each his own. I am looking for a 1967 Mustang coupe in cherry red, with white leather bucket seats, preferably in Canada! My favorite car of all time. Love the photo’s

Thanks hun. If I could I would give it all up to homestead, but but but... I have to settle with my city garden and helping out on the farm. Have a great sunday!

Never heard of or remember seeing a Mercury Maurader before but it sure is a cool looking ride! Tag me if you post anymore full shots. The oyster color is gorgeous. What's it called?

Hmm, I'm not to sure of the colour name. I do try not to complety show off customer vehicles, maybe some might not be happy?
Thanks for stopping in Nina.

Pretty interesting though!!!

I like cars. Please show off your crazy car idea. Also I love that old merc. I love all old huge cars though. My goal is to have a early '60s lincoln. Black, with red interior, whitewalls, suicide doors.

Alright, I'll do it. It's a Honda though, but hopefully it will fund an old hot rod with it's sale.
