Shopshots week 10. Broken bolts and rust art.

Well I missed a week in my #shopshots series so I'll add a few extra pictures this time. This episode will start off with me putting on my big winter boots one morning instead of my steel toed work boots. All day long I trudged around in these big boots, what a chore it was getting into some small cars.

Ok lets get into this weeks mechanical adventures with a broken bolt.

One method I practice often is to weld a nut onto the broken piece and then just turn it out. It's still red hot from welding it on!

This time however the bolt was so siezed(rusted) into place that it simply broke again further into the hole when I turned the nut. So drilling out the offender was the only remaing option.

My drive to work in the dark was interupted by flashing lights and the street blocked off. A young woman was hit by a car just outside the shop, she's going to be fine. The police were here for hours measuring and photographing, check out that drone they used(@diggerdug where are you?)

One day a leaky Honda was up on the hoist. This is a view of the bottom of the engine with the oil pan removed to change the gasket. Can you imagine working under this while oil is continously dripping onto you?

I thought that this was a fitting photo-op.

Remember people, the special lube goes on the shaft!

Are these buttons on all of the GTI's? They're quite clever.

I'm putting a 6.0 litre V8 from a 2003 GMC van into this 1995 Chevy pickup truck. Its a bit of a puzzle fitting parts together that weren't meant to be together and to make the electronics work. I'll do a post about this truck when it's finished, it is slated to be in the Easter wedkend car show.

Now onto some corrosion, it happens to most metals in time. Usually you think of a rusted through fender with bubbling paint, but check this out! The transfer case on this Ford is made of magnesium and it is rotting away. There is no way it could ever be serviced again.

On the same Ford large pieces of metal could be pulled right off. Thats not structurally sound at all.

This picture is unedited. The colors are amazing on this corrosion.

Here is my last episode of #shopshots in case you missed it. All of my photos are taken with my trusty Samsung Galaxy S6.
What did you do at work in the last week?

"Remember people, the special lube goes on the shaft!"
That's what he said! (a little "The Office" humor) @edthecanadian

I did absolutely nothing at work last week.. HAHA i don't work! Poor lady, and yes I know how it feels to have oil leak all over ya while trying to fix it.. I hope the engine wasnt recently ran and it was at least not hot oil!

It was -30°C that day, so quite the opposite!

Haha cool. Next weekish if I remember.

I'd love to have that silver coin! LOL!

It's called a maple, they make around 20million of them each year.

Grotty old engine oil dripping in your face can never ben fun. That engine transplant on the van looks very interesting - looking forward to more on that. Throughly enjoyed this - great story.
