This event occurred when I was in class 5. We used to live in Bhola, an isolated district of Bangladesh. Once our family decided to go on a trip to "nijhum dip", an island situated 50 km south from the mainland.
We started our journey very early in the morning because it would take several hours to reach the island. We were 20 people in number including some colleague of my father. When we reached there it was almost noon. We got down from the giant size speedboat and started roaming around. After having lunch everyone decided to take rest for a while. It was a golden opportunity for us, the kids. We planned to go to the woods. Without informing anyone we started going. We were walking and talking about the wild animals living in the forest. After a while we stopped because most of us became hungry. So, we tried to find our way back. We walked for 25-30 minutes but could not find any way out. At first, we could not understand that we were lost.
We looked around. Everything looked same.
We were scared!
But nobody expressed that. We were pretending to be having fun with the unknown predators. Suddenly monkeys started screaming. Saif, the eldest among us told that it was not a good sign. Probably the monkeys tried to warn us about something bad.It could be predators or "the pirates". Some of us started crying also. All of a sudden Saif shouted, "run". Without thinking everyone started running. Within a minute we found a river. We could recall that there was a river behind our hotel. We followed the river and within a short time we found our hotel.
Our life was saved.
Though the fear was visible on everybodys face but no one uttered a word about it. I think all of us will remember this event till the end of our life.
