Our Airbnb on a sheep farm in England

in siblingtrip •  5 years ago  (edited)

In my last post Searching for family in Middelton-in-Teesdale I highlighted Middleton-in-Teesdale a beautiful town in Northern England and our search for our ancestors.

In this post I want to highlight how great our Airbnb was on a sheep farm.

The airbnb hostess said that they had birthed over 300 sheep that season. My mom loved sheep and would go watch them in the field by where she lived and collected black faced stuffed animals, pictures and figurines. It was so great to be surrounded by the animals she liked so much.

Here is where we stayed and the land surrounding it. It was so beautiful and green!

Because it was a working farm there were many other animals too. I have always lived in a city and so it was fun to spend a few days on a working farm.

In addition to the sheep on this farm there are sheep all over Northern England.

We had so many great Airbnbs throughout our trip and this one on a sheep farm right on the outskirts of Middleton-in-Teesdale was amazing!

I still remember that incredible post you made a couple of months ago, the one that got everyone's attention and support because of how well written it was, the pictures it included and most importantly, the format you gave it. Thank you very much. That was exciting when my content was seen and recognized. I don't have a twitter account. I will look into your post and Twitter. Thanks for the comment and the support!

How fun!! I love using Airbnb's and have only had great experiences with them. Love your pictures and your view of the farm!

I hope your research is going well! Family Ancestory is fun when you do it with a sibling or three.

Thanks so much. I have had lots of great Airbnb experiences too. The trip was in May and we do still continue to do family history. Mostly me and my sister. It is great to encourage each other.

Airbnb really offers so many opportunities to add special experiences to any trip! Love this one, looks very romantic and authentic <3

Yes, I love that about airbnb it feels so much more authentic and (sometimes) you get to know the people renting it out too!

Looks like an amazing stay :)

It was really wonderful.

Very ice frame. Mother and baby looks amazing here. And the place is beautiful and clean. I love the place.

Thanks.

Air BNB on a sheep farm sounds fun! Did htey have good sheep cheese, too? That would be a definite perk of the BnB... lol

Hi, nope didn't have any sheep cheese.

It seems to be a very nice environment, a good pasture.

Yes, it was so nice.

Ah the fluffy white plague; England's lawn mowers; the humble sheep. Did you wonder why there are so many of them across England? It's because of a 400 year old law whereby the government pays (using the tax payers money of course) land owners to keep their land in an arable condition. The wool industry is not even that profitable anymore, yet there are millions of sheep across the country whose only purpose is to keep the land arable. It's a silly state of affairs! England has the least amount of woodland per square mile in the whole of Europe for this very reason. The less vegetation, the more surface run off you get, and therefore higher likelihood of flooding downstream. Not to mention all the other environmental benefits of more trees! It's an ancient law that needs an update hehe. The sheep are nice to look at and photograph though, I have many pics of them myself! Thanks for sharing it was nice to see you had a good time.

Yes, I did have a good time in England. I did wonder about so many sheep especially when the home owner told us that the price of wool is next to nothing. I did see your post and you have pictures of some very unique looking sheep.
