When in Venice I was not lazy to haul my Canon anywhere and it paid off many times. This is surely the best portrait/life short I managed to capture so far. Venetian native grandpa browsing thru the obituaries for the friends he lived the life with. No Facebook needed ... When returned from the trip I started connecting more dots between this photo, stories of local guy Massimo and the official Venice statistics.
It is not only the city who is sinking. Local population shrinking drastically over past decades. From over 60 thousand (which was already a huge drop of population after 1960's from 121K) down to 35K. According to local guy we rented our apartment from, even from this number roughly only half works and lives in the historical buildings.
Massimo owns the last small hardware store in Venice. Fights with raising water flooding his store, which he says not going to last long. No really local customers. Tourists buying few batteries cannot really sustain the business. He lives in one apartment and rents out another. Massimo shared great insides where to go (aside of common tourists paths) to experience Venice as it really is.
If you have any plans to visit Venice, don't stay at a hotel. Try to catch that experience by renting thru AirBnb or something. Before the whole place finally turns into a Disneyland alike attraction. Venice has been ranked the most beautiful city in the world as of 2016. Visit Venice before there will be no one to read or post the last obituaries on its wall ....

In particular I adding a glimpse of ghost shade on a wall to increase on Reflective Feel and Thoughts Provoking. Very little though, as still wanted it to stay Life Photography. Because the Venice story is real and it's happening right now.
