My favorite way to find free silver is with a metal detector. That might not actually qualify for finding "free silver", since a metal detector costs money. Going to the bank and buying rolls of dimes and quarters is another way people increase their silver stacks. Even though your getting the silver for face value, there is an initial investmest involved. First you have to know which coins are silver. In the United States all dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins where 90% silver up until 1964. A lesser known fact is that from 1942-1945 the "war nickel" was 35% silver. Half dollars are an often overlooked source of silver as well. From 1965-1969 all half dollars in the U.S.A. were 40% silver. So now you know what to look for I'm going to tell you the best spot for absolutely free silver. Next time you are at the local grocery store check the reject tray in the coinstar machine. The silver coins are heavier than the modern clad coins. They get ejected into the tray below where you put your coins in. Sometimes I'll find interesting foreign coins as well. It takes some luck but if you peek in there you just might get yourself some free silver too. The dime pictured was my last coinstar score. Don't forget to upvote, resteem, and follow if you enjoyed the tips. Thanks

It the date on the Buffalo nickel is worn completely smooth... you can try some Nic-A-Date Nickel Date Restorer on the date area and take a peak at the actual date. It's a chemical which does leave a stain, but if you're curious as to the date, the stuff does works. But, with the stain and the date showing... the coin would loose some of it's charm. K, don't do it... but I just wanted to share the idea of it with you.

Nice post. I buy what is called "junk silver" at a local gold and silver exchange. Old coins being sold by weight. It isn't free but it's convenient for the days when currency is worthless and real money is found in gold and silver.

FREE SILVER? Spunds good, I appreciate and have always appreciated the use of cojns because they have weight. i believe that we will revert back to using coins because of this fact.
The dollar doesn't weigh anything, but this is all subjective and depends on how you look at it and if you believe in the conspiracy theory.

Cant go wrong with gold and silver, even cryptos are way to easy to manipulate. Over 5000 years precious metals have been used as a currency. I believe the dollar will crash fact lol.

I just had a crazy visual of you rushing from Coinstar to Coinstar across the whole country, searching for silver dimes and foreign coins!

As a jeweler do you cast your own metal? Use the lost wax technique? Bend wire? Curious minds want to know.

I haven't really done much casting. I've melted down scrap silver and made wire and sheet but still need to play with the lost wax process. I do some wirewrapping and all the silvermithing work I do would be considered "fabricated" work. After seeing a lot of hand poured silver art on here I'm inspire to try some lf that as well.

Silver is not as easy to melt as gold. It will "crust" if you get it too hot too fast. But once you get the rhythm, it's easy.
