Buying Junk Silver: Journey to 1,000 OZ

in silver •  6 years ago

Today I decided to get in on the "junk" silver train. I will be ordering my first package of junk or constitutional US coinage, with a 90% silver content... Soon.

I believe I will be ordering through Silvergoldbull.ca, not because I lack local options but because I prefer convenience. However I have a local retailer who I am going to seek a quote from first before I make my final decision.

I am willing to consider Canadian coinage as well but prefer US, 90% options.

Silvergoldbull.ca charges about $23.50 CAD for 1 Troy ounce, or $1.40 face, US coinage. Or about $190 Canadian for $11 face (~7.7 Troy oz).

I should go buy some silver. It’s been a while. Buying junk silver seems to make sense since you buy a lot locally on the cheap..... even though silver is never junk.

Let me know where the best prices are. I’ve rarely ordered online because of shipping charges.

I'll post about my purchase and maybe do an unboxing video. Have a great day

I like junk silver! It's in small increments, so it's likely that it could be useful in bartering. It's also relatively cheap in the USA. I can get it for just above melt price at one of the local coin stores.

It seems like the prices at silvergoldbull are a bit high. $23.50 CAD would be around $18 US which is around $12.75 USD per $1 in face value. It's not terrible, but I would see if there is a lower price. You might even be better off ordering from a US site and having it shipped there. It depends on a lot of factors, including where you're located and how much you're going to get. My opinion is that it's a good direction to look at going though, at least for some of your 1,000 ounces.

Yeah, I just called a local silver shop and they told me that they would charge me spot price! I was like what? Most online sites charge a premium!

Not to mention, online shops make me pay shipping. The only problem is that the local shop has none right now.

Fortunately my local shop owner said he gets more all the time and I can call back later this week and I should be able to fill my order ($10 - 15 face).

So I agree, Silvergoldbull.ca is expensive for "junk" silver, but then again they have some now, and my local place doesn't. Oh well, as they say, good things come to those who wait.
