Hey Steemit, it's that time again. The time where I go out and purchase extravagantly overpriced (but stunningly beautiful) silver coins. Someone has got to do it, so I'm taking one for the team!
The first coin is from goldsilver.com. It's the Athenian Owl from their "Modern Ancients" series.
So reflective! It was hard to avoid taking my own picture in the shiny surface of this gorgeous coin. Here we have an owl alighting on a branch and the word "Wisdom". Buying silver is wise.
From this side, we can we have 10 troy ounces of beautiful 0.999 silver. The lion and bull with the coat-of-arms under the message "Free markets, Free people". We need more free markets and free people. A great big coin with a great message.

On to the next coin, here we have a silver coin with a golden image of Mercury on the surface. I love the star map in the background.
On the obverse side, we see a full picture of Mercury next to the queen. This coin is from Niue Island with a face value of 50$.
Lovely design here, this coin is 6 oz of pure 0.999 silver..wait what? 6 oz? What is this sorcery?

Very interesting. My father in Law collected silver dollars, and we have them. They were all circulated ones though, so I don't think they will be worth much.

I thought the high priced coins were upper twenties and lower thirties. I usually try to stick with upper teens and lower twenties because I think they will be easier to sell at higher profit margins in the future. I have some high premium coins and hope they will increase in value some day. A coin is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. I see videos of people claiming what their stack is worth based on eBay sale priced items. I think you have to go by what people are actually placing bids on and what the amount is to discover the true value. That is what they are willing to pay and true value.
For example there are 2 on eBay on bids and one ends tomorrow and it is currently at $251.00 way below the value. I cant wait to see what it sells for. Thanks for posting very impressive coins!!

@neoxian - I, like any average kid, dabbled in numismatics but it petered off as a hobby as I grew up. Your blogs though, make me wish I had continued. What exotic coins you show us ! I love the one with the alighting owl. The fat coin with mercury blows my mind too. As you have pointed out, the star map is very attractive and I also like the full mercury rendering. I don't buy silver, but I do get some. I keep some dime rolls on hand and when the power goes out like it does from time to time, I do a bit of coin roll hunting. Not highly profitable, but highly relaxing. I got some Mercury dimes (US ones) doing it :)

Oh man that is some cool stuff, yes you do have to pay way over spot for the "good stuff" - you should see my collection of Silver Pandas from many different years dating back to the early 80s - I probably overpaid for them. But I am not selling anything except straight bullion, silver rounds etc. I am accumulating Morgan and Peace Dollars - though more interested in the Morgans. I have quite a collection of graded/slabbed Carson City Morgans, probably around 50 pieces, even a few 1885 and 1889s. I enjoy collecting or "stacking" silver, and the spot price is horribly undervalued at $16-$17... now is definitely the time to buy, it is amazing it can remain so undervalued for so long. Anyway, I'm following you now and have upvoted and resteemed your post. Keep buying while it's dirt cheap - even if you have to pay a premium for the good stuff. Don't sell it!!! but the best were all the free silvr i found in ythe half dollar boxes when i would gho coin roll hunting!

Why do you say silver coins are overpriced? From the research I have done, it would seem the opposite. Silvergoldbull is my dealer of choice. And at current, the prices are bit lower right now. And a 6 oz though. Why not 1 oz in varying coins?
