Silverbugs: Overpriced silver part 2: electric boogaloosteemCreated with Sketch.

in silver •  7 years ago

Hey Steemit, it's that time again. The time where I go out and purchase extravagantly overpriced (but stunningly beautiful) silver coins. Someone has got to do it, so I'm taking one for the team!

The first coin is from goldsilver.com. It's the Athenian Owl from their "Modern Ancients" series.

20170803_185539
So reflective! It was hard to avoid taking my own picture in the shiny surface of this gorgeous coin. Here we have an owl alighting on a branch and the word "Wisdom". Buying silver is wise.

20170803_185644
From this side, we can we have 10 troy ounces of beautiful 0.999 silver. The lion and bull with the coat-of-arms under the message "Free markets, Free people". We need more free markets and free people. A great big coin with a great message.

Obtain from here:

On to the next coin, here we have a silver coin with a golden image of Mercury on the surface. I love the star map in the background.

20170803_185216
On the obverse side, we see a full picture of Mercury next to the queen. This coin is from Niue Island with a face value of 50$.
Lovely design here, this coin is 6 oz of pure 0.999 silver..wait what? 6 oz? What is this sorcery?

20170803_190009
Get out of town!!! This isn't a coin! This is a frikken cylinder

20170803_185340
Damn that's a phat coin, check out Mercury's feet running all over the world. This coin is mind blowing.

Get it from here:

16 ounces of pure silver added to my stack.

I like it! I like it alot!

Sometimes you just have to say "what the heck" and buy those pretty coins. I might have morphed into a weight-stacker, but my roots are as a coin collector. I've always appreciated the beauty of coins.

You are a noble knight Sir Stacksalot.

Those are beautiful!!

Very beautiful coins. Thanks for sharing the link and info.

That's the way to get silver, in style!

Those coins Look so awesome . Wish I had Those 😁😜😜

Very interesting. My father in Law collected silver dollars, and we have them. They were all circulated ones though, so I don't think they will be worth much.

If they are pre 1965 then they are still silver coins and have value.

I think most are and some are from the 1800s too.

Hi @neoxian I've written an article about you, check it out if you can, thanks.

good information about this coin sir i didnot intersted in coins before this but if ur opinion is good for this sure i will intrest it

I thought the high priced coins were upper twenties and lower thirties. I usually try to stick with upper teens and lower twenties because I think they will be easier to sell at higher profit margins in the future. I have some high premium coins and hope they will increase in value some day. A coin is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. I see videos of people claiming what their stack is worth based on eBay sale priced items. I think you have to go by what people are actually placing bids on and what the amount is to discover the true value. That is what they are willing to pay and true value.
For example there are 2 on eBay on bids and one ends tomorrow and it is currently at $251.00 way below the value. I cant wait to see what it sells for. Thanks for posting very impressive coins!!

It sold for $409 !!

Smart purchase and investment @neoxian

Beautiful coins you got!

I also love collecting gold and silver coins, especially the limited edition ones.

It is easy and guaranteed return in the future. Just buy and save 😃

I didn't know you are a coin guy :D

Love that cylinder. Might buy one of those.

Yes very interesting , I like a silver coin with a golden image of Mercury on the surface. Nice purchase @neoxian

Thanks you are awesome .

For sure you pay more than it is worth. But this is really art. Fascinating to see those scenes put on a coin. GREAT.

Crazy ass coin i think

I'm not sure I want any ass coins.

Lmao i can agree to that :)

those are some nice coins! Are they expensive? and do they change in color after having them for a while?

Yes, silver can tarnish if you don't keep it clean.

Those Niue coins are gorgeous. Makes me miss the days of collecting Kookaburras.

Silver coins are beautiful, but I only admire them. Somehow the arm does not rise to buy.

You gotta show that arm who is boss and make it buy some silver.

Those coins are awesome. "Beautiful"

Wow you really did go all out, I didn't know they came out with a new modern ancients this year, is it available in 1oz? You should check out #steemsilvergold, there's alot of really cool stack sharing going on there.

@neoxian - I, like any average kid, dabbled in numismatics but it petered off as a hobby as I grew up. Your blogs though, make me wish I had continued. What exotic coins you show us ! I love the one with the alighting owl. The fat coin with mercury blows my mind too. As you have pointed out, the star map is very attractive and I also like the full mercury rendering. I am happy to see that you are keeping up your passion. Upvoted. Cheers.

its so amazing ; but really i like the first one
thank you for sharing
Followed

I don't buy silver, but I do get some. I keep some dime rolls on hand and when the power goes out like it does from time to time, I do a bit of coin roll hunting. Not highly profitable, but highly relaxing. I got some Mercury dimes (US ones) doing it :)

Oh man that is some cool stuff, yes you do have to pay way over spot for the "good stuff" - you should see my collection of Silver Pandas from many different years dating back to the early 80s - I probably overpaid for them. But I am not selling anything except straight bullion, silver rounds etc. I am accumulating Morgan and Peace Dollars - though more interested in the Morgans. I have quite a collection of graded/slabbed Carson City Morgans, probably around 50 pieces, even a few 1885 and 1889s. I enjoy collecting or "stacking" silver, and the spot price is horribly undervalued at $16-$17... now is definitely the time to buy, it is amazing it can remain so undervalued for so long. Anyway, I'm following you now and have upvoted and resteemed your post. Keep buying while it's dirt cheap - even if you have to pay a premium for the good stuff. Don't sell it!!! Peace, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff, I will post some of my pieces soon

Keep on STACKIN! :)

Omg how is it a coin!! It's so wide! ))

Last art is very creative.

That looks really cool too :)

Nice collections of coins! @neoxian, what is the similar of those coins in USD?

I am more practical. I go just for for cheap recognizable rounds. Hope to expand someday to the more extravagant.

Keep sharing and seeming!

It's good to start out practical first.

The coins you really captivated my heart and also very luxurious with fantastic design and
elegant ..thanks you've shared

Awesome! That's the first time I've seen a 6 oz coin. I might have to get one of those, too...

That mercury star coin (cylinder) is just awesome :)

The second one I like :)

It is pure ART!

Very nice coins. I've not seen that Mercury cylinder - it looks awesome.

Gorgeous! I can easily see why you would be a collector. I have a couple of .999 repoussé silver pendants by Henryk Winograd. This one is Primavera:

Most indians have silver coins with different god and goddess embedded on it. My parents also got some similar to this:download.jpeg

Silver is an excellent investment, me too have 2kg of it

Fancy coin you got there!

Thank so much @neoxian , greetings Follow

Why do you say silver coins are overpriced? From the research I have done, it would seem the opposite. Silvergoldbull is my dealer of choice. And at current, the prices are bit lower right now. And a 6 oz though. Why not 1 oz in varying coins?

They are pretty nice designs..

Another nice post with useful article from @neoxian.
Up voted and resteemed.
