Hi friends,

One of the most important things I do when I want to go gold prospecting in a new area is… research!

My primary source is mylandmatters.org which is a public site listing where placer and lode claims are. The goal being - get in gold bearing areas (whether expired claim leases or in areas where there are a lot of claims) and trying not to be on someone else’s claim - no sense ticking off a claim owner and getting shot!

The website has the name of the claims and the gps coordinates in them so you know exactly where they are in the area as well.

The only trouble is you still have to do the hard part of getting there, laboring, and hopefully getting lucky to find the gold (or maybe better skills or equipment than I have).
