On March 7, China Unicom officially announced that it will take the lead in launching the “eSIM No. 1 Dual Terminal” business in six cities in Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou and Changsha.
What is eSIM?
The eSIM card is also called an embedded SIM card. Simply put, the traditional SIM card is directly embedded on the device chip instead of being added as a separate removable component to the device. The user does not need to insert a physical SIM card as it does now.
The launch of “eSIM No. 1 Dual Terminal” broke the shackles of mobile phones as the only mobile communication carrier , and provided possibilities for multi-scene calls and smart applications.
Users only need to add an eSIM (Embedded SIM, SIM card)-attached smart device to share a phone number and package resource with the mobile phone terminal to implement independent cellular mobile communications.
This means that when an incoming call is made to the main number, both terminals will vibrate at the same time. Any terminal can make a call, and it can be connected at any time without carrying a mobile phone.
China Unicom stated that the eSIM No. 1 dual-terminal service is an innovative communication product for China Unicom in the consumer Internet of Things era.
Telecom analyst Fu Liang told reporters that the Internet of Things is the future trend. Watches, bracelets and smart homes will all be connected to the Internet. These terminals are not suitable and there is no need to apply for a separate number and package. The eSIM card is based on the air to write numbers, which can reduce the size and power consumption of various devices. Apple Watch can call independently
