Simona Halep Challenge Kerber in Australian Open Semifinal 2018
MELBOURNE - Romanian singles tennis player Simona Halep will challenge German Angelique Kerber in the semi-finals of the Australian Open Grand Slam 2018 tournament. Both players appear impressive in the last eight after defeating their opponents on Wednesday (24/1/2018).
Halep qualified for the semi-finals after beating Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova 6-3 and 6-2. Halep had no trouble means to overcome the sixth seed.
At the start of the match, Halep got the resistance from Pliskova and trailed 0-2. However, Halep tried to catch up and turned ahead of his opponent to seize the first set with a score of 6-3.
Entering the second set, Halep appeared dominant and did not let Pliskova develop the game. The 26-year-old continues to strike until finally closes the second set with a 6-2 lead.
After the game, Halep said he was ready to face Kerber in the last 4. The first seed said that playing against Kerber was a challenge.
Halep said he would try to appear calm and dominate since the beginning of the game. He was reluctant to think about the results and prefer to play optimally.
"This will be a challenge against Angelique Kerber. I have to be ready, calm and try to dominate the game and finish the points. I do not think about the results. I just want to play as well as possible, "said Halep, quoting from the BBC, Wednesday (24/1/2018).
