simple minds waterfront

Hi!   This is my first story on Steemit. I don't exactly know what the meaning of Steemit is. As I have understood it is a little bit like Facebook, but without the possibility that posts can be abused by an organisation like Facebook or by agencies. It should also not be possible to abuse my personal information for irritating pop-ups and advertising. If that is true I can say that I am happy with a platform like Steemit! If I am wrong in the above about what I think Steemit is, I appreciate it very much if someone corrects me. Comments that can help me learning more about Steemit are welcome.   So, that being said I want to tell something about myself in my first post. I am a person that is interested in many things. One of the most important things for me is music. I listen to music every day and I am one of the extincting people that still doesn't download music for free. I still buy CD's (and if still possible LP's). In my opinion CD's and LP's are the cheapest products in the world. I mean, when do you buy a thing that you will love immediately from the beginning and will cherish for the rest of my life? I own about a thousand CD's/LP's and I never bought a bad one. I still play each and every one of them. Most are played once in a while, but a small collecting I play very often. 20 bucks for a CD... on average 10 songs are on it. Let's say I own exactly 1,000 CD's/LP's. That makes 10,000 songs for 20,000 Euro. Let's say I play 2 CD's/LP's on average each day (it probably will be more, but let's stay on the small side). So I play 20 songs each day. That makes 7,300 songs I play per year. I started buying LP's about 30 years ago. So that makes that I have listened to the music I bought....219,000 songs! As said I paid 20,000 Euro for my collection of CD's/LP's. So that makes that I have paid about 9 cents for every song I listened to. At the time that I started buying LP's they were much cheaper than 20 Euro and still today most CD's are cheaper than 20 Euro. Probably on average I listen to more than 2 CD's/LP's daily. And probably on average the CD's/LP's I own have more than 10 songs on it. So that makes that every song I have heard until now is much cheaper than 9 cents. In addition to that I hope that I will live another more 30 years (or more) to listen to my CD's/LP's. That will bring down the price to every listened to song radically more. Although not mathematically correctly shown by me in this post, I think it is fair to say that every time I listened to a song on my stereo it didn't cost me more than 6 or 7 cents (and taking into account that I will still continue buying CD's/LP's, although the last years I didn't buy more than 10 a year). You may ask: what point does he want to make??? It is a fair enough question. As I am typing I am asking myself the same question. My first intention for this post was to post a video of a song I played on the piano, but while typing I now realize that I went on a side road. To answer the question in my opinion it is very cheap to buy CD's. So I want people to encourage to buy CD's or LP's. Illegal downloading of music must be stopped in my humble opinion. As shown it is very cheap to buy a CD or LP and on top of that a CD or LP contains a beautiful booklet also. Artists and bands suffer financially from illegal downloading and they compensate that by making tickets to see a live show pretty expensive. And here comes a little bit of egoism by me... I like to go to live shows and concerts ;-). But seriously, I think artists should be paid for their creativity and illegal downloading makes that they are not payed for it. The top bands still earn enough money, but many 'smaller' artists suffer significantly from illegal music downloading and that just isn't fair. I want to point out that I am not an artist and I don't earn my money in making music. They only thing thing I do with music is enjoying it and sometimes I try to play a song on the piano. And that was my intention before I started writing this post. One of my favorite bands is Simple Minds. I have played Waterfront on the piano some time ago and recorded it. Back then I posted it on Facebook, but now I want to post it on Steemit. Why?? I don't exactly know. I enjoyed playing it and maybe someone likes hearing it, I think that's why. And if you don't like it, just click away, no hard feelings. I love the music of Simple Minds very much and playing it on the piano is a great joy, that's why I want to share it. Now I hope I will succeed in posting my video on Steemit.. I am not sure, but if not I hope I convinced at least 1 person who form now  buys CD's or LP's instead of illegally downloading it. So, this was my first post on Steemit. I enjoyed typing it and maybe in a short time another one will follow....
