How to put multiple Nvidea GPU's in the same rig for Simplemining

in simplemining •  7 years ago

So, I am new to mining, and I wanted to make it as simple as possible, so for an operating system, I went with Simplemining. I will not waste your time with all of the info for SMOS, because you can find that easily on the web. What can't always be found easily, is the random problems that you may run into.
Simplemining is very easy to start up, and run, particularly if you are using Nvidea cards, because it is so incredibly simple to overclock them directly from the site, their is no need to flash them, or use MSI afterburner to overclock them.
What is difficult however, is getting multiple GPU's, as in 1050ti, with 1070, and 1060, and a random 1080 to all be overclocked on the same board, using the same system. I personally tried this, and for some reason, I couldn't get both cards to overclock, even when the overclock settings were placed on SMOS. What I found was that I could either get the 1050 ti to overclock and stay that way, and the 1070 would go back to stock settings, or I would be able to get the 1070 to overclock, and the 1050 ti would go back to stock settings.
So, for the solution.
I found out, through multiple variant changes, including risers, usb cords attached to the risers, moving ports for the cards, that I simply needed to change the PCIe support to GEN2 on the motherboard. Originally I had this set to AUTO, which is one of the options that simplemining says will work on the motherboard settings. Unfortunately, it doesn't work when you have different cards on the same rig. If they are all the same, it will work fine on AUTO.
So, if you are having the same frustration that I was, try setting the PCIe support to GEN2 on the motherboard settings for both cards, which along with all of the other information found easily on the web, should fix you up nicely.
Hope this helps!
