The prophet Micah lived during the Reign of Hezekiah, which initiated a great religious reform in the Kingdom of Judah, and it is very likely that the prophet witnessed the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah and its capital Samaria at the hands of the Assyrian empire.
Like all the prophets, Micah called for fidelity to the law and a change of heart, but he also prophesied the fall of the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, which brought him the enmity of many and risked his life announcing the word of the Lord.
The times in which this prophet lived were times of great sins and oppression, and the priests that ran after money and the seers or false prophets that announced false visions had created a sense of false security in both kingdoms Israel and Judah, in this way Micah denounced this truth in his book:
"Listen, you leaders of Jacob,
you rulers of Israel.
Should you not embrace justice,
you who hate good and love evil;
who tear the skin from my people
and the flesh from their bones;
who eat my people's flesh,
strip off their skin
and break their bones in pieces;
who chop them up like meat for the pan,
like flesh for the pot?" Micah 3:1-3.
Like Isaiah, the prophet Micah also taught that sin separates man from God, sin is essentially a self-destructive path that opposes the spiritual path of mercy (compassion, gentleness), piety (firmness, constancy, devotion), and righteousness.
Those who follow the path of sin, the path of foolishness and madness, on the day of retribution and anguish, these persons cannot expect anything good from the Lord, so the prophet taught:
"Then they will cry out to the LORD,
but he will not answer them.
At that time he will hide his face from them
because of the evil they have done" Micah 3:4.
And according to what was announced by the prophet, both the kingdoms of Israel and Juda were destroyed; but due to the mercy and faithfulness of the Lord, a remnant of Juda was responsible for rebuilding what was lost. God calls us to the righteous life to be blessed.
