The Book of Genesis tells us the story of original sin and the origin of humanity according to the word of God. In a very interesting way, the Book of Genesis tells us that sin entered humanity as a consequence first of a disobedience, that of Eve who followed the advice of the serpent, but also as a result of the acquisition of discernment, that is, of the knowledge of the good and the evil, and this as an effect of having tasted the fruit of the tree of discernment. This story is fundamentally an answer to the philosophical problem of evil, that is, how a wise and perfect God allows evil in the world; the Bible shows us with this history that evil is fundamentally the result of our ability to choose and that there is no ontological evil in the creation of God, because the universe is a harmony.
This story from the Bible is explaining to us that depending on how we use our ability to discern, we are going to be good or bad; an ability that comes from original sin, because according to the Bible, the mankind was created in a state of innocence, as seen actually in some children.
And as a consequence of this, the Bible tells us that Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise, the garden of God, so that they would not eat the fruit of the tree of life and become immortal.
And thus, it was according to Genesis, God's punishment for man for having eaten from the tree of discernment, that is, the punishment for Adam and his male descendants:
"To Adam he said, ´Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ´You must not eat from it,´
´Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return´" Genesis 3:17-19.
