Reality of a Single Mom - Introduction

in singleparenting •  7 years ago

Knowing now, what I did not know then, how differently my knowledge would have handled the situation. Hindsight, an exact science.

(unfortunately, without experience, we are clouded by our situations and surroundings)

If I can at least help or guide one person through my experience, this would not all be in vain.

Where it all began:

Struggling through our long-term relationship, he found comfort in the arms of what was a mutual friend.
Needless-to-say, a couple months later, I made the mistake of finding comfort too. Not realising immediately, with this now short-term relationship, We would be bound together forever, whether we liked it or not.

What was I to do?!?!, I WAS PREGNANT, roughly 6 weeks!!! The reality was real, the decisions were tough. I was still in love with my unfaithful ex AND NOW I WAS BOUND TO THIS OTHER PERSON FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!! No matter what choice I made, my life had changed.

A BABY, I hardly felt adult enough myself! I got myself into this situation, I can get myself through this situation. (no-one can really tell you the struggle, the emotions and financial difficulties).

So my decision was made, baby and I were going to be a team, I had the support and love of my surrounding (our ‘what we refer to our family and friends’ village)...

Father to be and I were in a whirlwind of decisions, he was pro-abortion (not going to lie the thought had crossed my mind), I was not. (I believed the right thing to do was to raise this child, come hell or high water). I was successful, I had, I have a great team of support, "what was so tough"…?

And so the growing pregnant belly, the cheating ex and the disgruntled father all became a reality - a functionally, dysfunctional family.

(Please note, I am by no means a writer, just a single mother putting pen to paper)
