Hello,

From my experience Site Reliability Engineer is much higher position than Software Engineer as the Site Reliability Engineer get high paid than Software engineer

Site reliability engineering

Site reliability engineering is a set of principles and practices that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations problems. The main goals are to create scalable and highly reliable software systems.

When we compare to Salary SRE:

The average salary for a Site Reliability Engineer in US is $124,467. The average additional cash compensation for a Site Reliability Engineer in US is $12,892. The average total compensation for a Site Reliability Engineer in US is $137,359.

Software Engineer

A software engineer is a person who applies the principles of software engineering to design, develop, maintain, test, and evaluate computer software.

The term programmer is sometimes used as a synonym, but may also lack connotations of engineering education or skills.

The average salary for a software engineer in the US is $78,501/per year.

From salary we can compare that SRE is more high paid than Software engineer

So from career points of view you must go for SRE engineer.

If you're looking for better career I personally suggest to go for SRE certification

If you are wondering where to begin this journey? Then you should check the SRE certification.

But you first check if the institute has goodwill in the market and if this site reliability engineer certification is accepted globally or not. Check the review before applying.
