The Guide for Beginner Skateboarders: Gear Setup 1 of 10

BEFORE YOU CAN ACTUALLY SKATE YOU ARE GOING TO OBVIOUSLY NEED THE NECESSARY GEAR TO BEGIN...I DON'T THINK YOU NEED ME TO TELL YOU THIS

The first and number one thing you need is a solid pair of kicks. Although you can skate with regular everyday shoes, it will be a lot harder, and even to the point of becoming dangerous. Shoes for this particular sport are built with a flat bottom, to easily grip the board, and usually includes padded areas where the shoe will likely wear down.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR, I know I know its not the most fashionable wear in the world but you'll thank me later!

It is very important, if not crucial, to get a helmet. Some skateboarders do not wear a helmet, or protection of any kind, which is very dangerous and not promoted by any means. Actually, it is becoming more common for skate parks to require helmets, which is very smart especially for starters.

Wearing other protection can be good as well, but honesty depends on the type of skateboarding you are doing, or plan to do. I f you are trying to do tricks, elbow pads are a good idea, knee pads re only needed when doing anything extreme, like skating ramps or trying crazy tricks. I personally don't recommend wrist braces, because you do not want to get comfortable using your hands while falling.
