Background

When I started to think about what I wanted to draw for the theme “Rose”, the first thing that came to my mind was love. Giving a beautiful long stemmed rose to that someone special. But I thought to myself, now how can I make that interesting? My husband @sighmanjestah and I talked about what to draw.

Materials used

1. Derwent Graphic Medium Pencils -2H,HB, & 2B
2. Knead Eraser
3. Heavyweight Acid-free paper

Process

Well here’s what I came up with.
I started lightly sketching out my design with a 2H pencil. I also used a kneaded eraser for highlights and mistakes.

I wanted the rose to stay the center of attraction so I made sure that the rest of my drawing around the rose was light in comparison. Tried to keep things not to busy and continued to darken the rose with HB and 2B pencils.

Here I completed my work but at the end of it all I chose to crop out the rest of the drawing because I thought it seemed to take away from the focal point of the rose, focusing to much on the gravestone.

I’m going to edit this post later to add my husbands post on how we collaborated together on this project, but I need to get this posted before the deadline.
