“Just pop in your earphones and go with the snow.”
A new skiing app, launched for iOS and Android, turns any ski resort into an adventure playground. The SKADI Ski Audio Guide, Adventure Game & Quest app uses augmented reality technology to create a personalised ski safari experience, based on your skill level and preferences.
This primarily entails collecting objects and discovering mythical creatures—brought to life on-screen—as you ski down the slope. However, there are many more useful features packed into the app; SKADI is designed to make exploring large ski resorts easier and guides you to different places and trails. According to the apps developers, SKADI will “have you skiing like a local on the first day.” Check out the app launch video below:
So far the launch has been positive and skiers and snowboarders are having fun using the app. A testimony on the SKADI website reads:
A smart tool that helps every snowboarder or skier exploring new mountains. It’s amazing how accurate routes get calculated based on geographical data and your personal preferences. The voice and graphical supported navigation works like charm.
SKADI can function with or without an internet connection, which is great—try getting a mobile signal in the middle of the French Alps! To use the app offline, you simply have to download the resort map and let SKADI do the rest. According to the creators of SKADI, these maps are “based on real ski experience and the very latest in geo-data.”
safari takes on a whole new meaning with SKADI! Let the skadiapp be your guide and take an audio-guided skisafari around your favourite resort, tailored to your level and preferences. You might even find your new favourite run!

As a ski resort guide, the app functions using hands-free audio guidance—just plug-in your headphones and follow intelligible audio prompts:
Just pop in your earphones and go with the snow.
If you ever get lost, SKADI can also function as a P2P navigator—tap on a point of interest or object on the map and the app with calculating a route for you. It’s important to note, though, that SKADI should not be relied upon in a survival situation and you should always take necessary precautions before heading off-piste or into the backcountry.

Never really understood the whole tracking phenomena behind ski resorts these days. Half the fun is just going up a new mountain and just sending it around, instead of being instructed on it. Maybe it's just me, but I'm more than happy for people to keep their tracked vertical feet and whilst I keep on trucking with the float pack out of site.
