First, using an oil based cleanser to clean the makeup and sebum as these are oil soluble. There are cleansing oils, balms and creams available in the market as serving the same purpose. I have pretty oily skin and olive oil works fine for me, doesn't break me out. You can give it a shot and check if it works for you, in case you are looking for a cheap alternative 😜 Wipe off your face using a wet towel or wipe to make the second step easier. Second, use a face wash to wash away any leftover makeup or residue left on your skin. Now let’s talk about micellar water. “Micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water.” (Oliver, 2015)
Did you read the word ‘oil’? YES! Which means it can be a substitute for oil cleansing. Even though almost all the micellar water come with the claim that you don’t need to wash your face afterwards, I don’t agree to that. I’ve noticed a significant amount of dirt and residue coming off when I used a toner on a cotton pad even after using micellar water and a facewash. There are a lot of micellar water available in the market, I will suggest the garnier ones. These are cheap, yet work great at taking off dirt/makeup. They come in different ranges too. Look for the one that’s targeted towards your needs. You can find this product in various facebook pages stating from $6.96 to $13.03.
For the second step, you can follow up with your favorite face wash. I like to use my holy grail Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash as I have oily acne prone skin. it has the active ingredient salicylic acid of 2% which is great for acne prone skin. But do not use this cleanser if you have sensitive or normal to dry skin. Also stay away from the other versions of it (pink and green ones) if you are sensitive to frangrance. It is very reasonably priced too. You can find it in any superstores starting from $7.99 depending on the size.
Pick a cleanser that suits your skin the best. Don't forget to tone and moisturize afterwards.
