I joined Steemit.com in September last year. I was holding Steem before that but I left it on the exchange instead of registering my wallet. I was still pretty noob - That’s back when I thought it was normal for a third party to control my net worth.
For this one I used a No.2 pencil - A2 paper - Paper stump for blending - 4B graphite for shading - 6B graphite inside the nose and around the eyes - 4 Crayola’s (tan, light brown, mahogany, peach) - White gel pen - This Photo I found on DuckDuckGo:
4 Hours
4 Minutes
The title said part 1:3 though? Part 2 - Wednesday: I’ll draw what the sloth is clawing into on another page and cut it out. Then I’ll cut away about 1/4 of the paper the sloth is currently drawn on (you can see my faint lines) and stick the next one under the sloth’s claws. Part 3 - Friday: I’ll draw a third piece that ties all three together. I’ll use that third one to do some overdue shout-outs, I have a list of people who deserve one. But what’s Part 1 all about? And who is this @slothicorn I’m introducing myself to? Glad you asked
One of the artists I follow here is @pegarissimo. He had drawn several of these unicorn-looking, teddy bear things. Initially, I didn’t recognize it as a sloth, most likely due to the spike protruding from its head. In all honesty, I thought @pegarissimo was drawing his own imaginary world. Perfect! I followed him Then I started noticing the #slothicorn more often. So I did some research: 🔍
I wish I could have this one back
@slothicorn is a community of artists who promote cryptocurrency through quality artwork. That’s my simplified explanation A detailed explanation Can Be Found Here. Follow @slothicorn and your feed will be updated regularly with quality art. I used the hashtag for a couple of my recent posts but I knew it wouldn’t count until I did a formal introduction. I think I can cross that one off the list now.
My friends call me Arts. The very first post I did here was my Introduce Yourself to Steemit back in September. I did the lone sketch on that one, too. Prior to that, I last drew something in my 9th grade art class when I drew a woman’s face. I got an A on it actually. It was my first year of high school and it was required of me to participate in an “elective.” I chose art because I only had to take it for the first half of the school year and the second half was drafting. Drafting wasn’t quite as boring. That was 1990, nearly three decades have passsed since then.
I don’t know why I was so against drawing all of these years - I’ll try not to do that again. I was obviously unaware of the meditative factor drawing provides. Maybe I just took it for granted? I spent a lot of time exploring alternative creative avenues like DJ’ing and writing - From there I expanded into some keys and synth’s. I never got comfortable hearing my voice through the speakers though. Thanks but no thanks, Mic.
These days I don’t thumb through records. What I have noticed lately is myself thumbing through the local art store - I’m in awe every time I go to that place. As I was clicking on all of the amazing artwork here, I started noticing something they all had in common - Descritpions: Paper sizes, pencils with numbers and letters, blending tools. I was lost. It’s a whole new language I started pulling up Steemit on my phone prior to entering the art store so I could ask questions accordingly: “What’s A4 paper?” “What’s a graphite?” “What’s this.... what’s that?” I discovered it’s easier to just show them my phone - “This.” Between that store and this community, I continue to find people who are not pretending. Thank you, you know who you are!
Final
And thanks for providing this art community, I’m happy to be a part of it. Everything you see from me is current, I don’t have past sketchbooks or drawings to share with you. I’ll show you the pages of this sketchbook I’m working out of though, one page at a time, as they fill up:
When I look around at all of the amazing artwork on here, I find myself appreciating the ones with progress pictures a little more so I’ll continue to post those with my work. Thank you all for your support, I appreciate it more than words can draw.
Sincerely,
@dandays

Check out a couple priors while you’re here:
Wow Man ! This is incredible work ! Artie you killed it really !
I was not expecting that much photo realism , especially it's much harder to do so with crayon than with ink or charcoal. It must have taken you forever, thanks again for sharing your creative process and your story!
It's funny because chose Art and History of Art in high school too, and it was the first time in my life I was getting good grades!
"I don’t know why I was so against drawing all of these years" probably because you are so good at it, and you wanted something more challenging.
I learnt Brazilian Jui Jitsu and stopped music for 2 years thinking I could become an MMA fighter.
It took me one fat sweaty man to rest on me for 20 minutes until I almost pass out to realize that it was not my calling :)

My pleasure Ed, you’ve assisted me a lot through this process. Thanks for convincing me to post mon, wed, fri. I’m stoked ya’all are enjoying it!
I’ve never worked with charcoal.. @puravidaville recently got a charcoal pencil but just looking at it is intimidating. is it erasable?
“Don’t know why...” I sure am glad you think so!! Thank you. I wondered that the past couple days myself. Maybe cuz I have a tough time with colors? (Hence I lean on black/white)
“MMA” dude that was funny!
I think you may have unloaded your voice more with this Stevie track, than any of your previous. Impressive!

"tough time with colors" , that's so interesting , I would love to see what you can do with a tablet and a painting software..Any experience in this??
"MMA” dude that was funny" hahahah I am glad you liked it
"your voice more with this Stevie track" I really had to , I took it as a way to challenge myself, and until then end of the day 3:30 , I was still laughing at myself for daring trying this song (again). So I lost my shit and started recording a version "Just for giggles", and It sounded good :) I am gonna be honest I was as surprised as you are :P

Negative on the painting software. We really need to invest in a tablet though, the idea of painting software intensified the need.
Ya.. colors. It was discovered really early though so I’ve been practicing my whole life. Just Blue/Green really and Red. Like I said though, I’ve been practicing my whole life so when I see sky, I know it’s “blue.” when I see grass it’s “green.” The top color of a traffic signal, “red.”
Ed, thanks for the Resteem man, I really appreciate it.
