The Amur system only in Russia includes 172,233 large and small rivers, of which 8,787 have a length of more than 10 km. On the Amur catchment area, there are more than 61 thousand lakes with a total area of about 10 thousand sq. Km.
Sometimes in the summer after intense prolonged rains, the water level rises to 10-15m. Then the floodplain Amur becomes similar to the endless sea with archipelagoes of large and small islands. The Lower Amur is located within the limits of the Middle and Lower Amur lowlands.
