Fuzzy Wuzzy Fluffy Furry

in smartphonephotography •  6 years ago  (edited)

I'm a sucker for furry things. And it's very hard for me to just walk away if an animal is in need for help. With the exception of mosquitoes, snakes, spiders and wasps. Mosquitoes I won't tolerate at all, snakes, spiders and wasps I leave alone if they leave me alone.

It's been pretty hot here in Finland lately. 30°C in the shade. Bumblebees lying here and there on the hot city's tile streets. I decided to give this little bumblebee few more days or weeks to live. The world needs every single pollinator, so let's hope this one lived more than one day and continued it's pollinating job.

We were having coffee outside and I noticed a small bumblebee on the ground near to our table. I and the waiter almost stepped on it. Luckily only almost. I picked the bumblebee up with a serviette and noticed that it moved a bit. So I poured water all over the table, got some sugar and waited for the bumblebee to make it's move.

Sugar dissolving and one happy bumblebee! Photo below, bumblebee thinking : "I gots to hang on!"

So I took the wet serviettes, stuffed them in to a disposable coffee cup, picked the sugar with the bumblebee up and put them on top of the serviettes. I carried the bumblebee to the nearest park that had some shade, grass and white clovers.

The park was Tuomiokirkonpuisto, Tampere Cathedral park.

Just so you know, this coffee cup isn't the cup I used. Maybe someone else carried a bumblebee before me to the crass with this cup and left it on top of the garbage can for someone else in need of a perfectly good cup. Or is there any other reason to carry a cup to the park and leave it there?

I was thinking that I could print some T-shirts that say: "Pollinator Rescue!" That way my walking style in the streets would give an immediate explanation to everyone. I walk very carefully looking down all the time and if I spot a dark dot on the ground I spread my arms to my sides and shout loudly: "Stop, right now! Do not take another step or else..." Then I drop down on my knees. After careful examination I rise back up and shout: "False alarm, dirty bubblegum. Continue walking everyone."

If I could, I would have carried the bumblebee all the way to Arboretum where the roses and hundreds of other flowers are in bloom right now, but it's too far from the city centre.

Amanda, the ultimate fluffy and Jörö, the cotton-like fluffy. The Fuzzy Wuzzy leaves were just like Jörö's fur. Really fuzzy wuzzy and soft.

:) Thank you!

You are saving the world! We need these bees to be in perfect condition.
Not too fond of insects at all, but I won't step on a bee either.
I'll see if I can join your bee-force next time I come across one.

Great shots too btw!

Thanks! :) So the T-shirts with Pollinator rescue is definitely happening.

Yep. Is it going to be yellow black striped or...

I love this!!!
