Picture Stories #153 - Funky Fungi

in smartphonephotography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Over the years I've come across many trees and tree trunks that have been covered by unique looking and vividly attractive fungus, yet I had never taken pictures of them. Recently, I got an opportunity to shoot some photos of this peculiar growth which I happened to find growing on a tree trunk, and although I'm still not sure of the actual reason why they are found colonizing themselves on the bark of woods, these semi-circular shaped beings found thriving in the most odd places definitely make nice specimens for photography.

Fungi happen to be all around us, and I guess they just need the right environment to survive and thrive. They can be parasitic, or maybe symbiotic, yet they are clearly a very integral part of the our environment and nature.

Have you ever photographed fungus?

Thank you for reading!

Hehe, nice :)

I really like to pick mushrooms :)) but I do not like eat it))) mushrooms growing on trees is something magical :)) apparently the tree is a breeding ground for mushrooms, but it's so unusual! :) almost like a tree breaking through asphalt! :) I like to photograph the fly agarics :)) because they are bright and beautiful! :)) Of course the edible mushrooms have their own charm, but it's incomparable :))

such great photographs, thanks for sharing :)

Polypore / bracket fungus.
They grow on sick, dying or dead trees decomposing them. I've heard some species are actually edible - I can't imagine chewing on something that can be harder than the wood it grows on :o) Some are so hard that you could use them as support while climbing the tree.

That's such a sad story :( Thanks for the info... :)

wild mushrooms that usually grow on the trunk of an old tree. I often crossed out some mushrooms that I cultivated myself.

nice :)

Those fungi look like the nature played frisbees and they are stuck in the trees. You are right they are really amazing natural wonder. The surface of them look like the rings around the trunk of tree too :)

haha that's an interesting way to look at it - nature's frisbees :) thanks!

The pictures are interesting and beautiful! And immediately comes the idea that people are also sometimes parasitic. Maybe even unconsciously.

thanks! :)
