It's this time of the year when rock formations cover in variety of bright colors. Same happens in rock gardens.
First the delosperma. I have no idea why I only recently realized those are so diverse. I'm definitely expanding the set this year. I'll need a lot more rocks for the rockery though :o)
Next is sempervivum. For me it is the epitome of rock dwelling plant. Cactus like appearance, tightly packed in smallest of cracks, strong, bright flowers.
Finally the sedum. It is everywhere. It covers not just rocks but acquires any uninhabited land, borders of flower beds, even some patches of lawn. Comes in multiple colors, shapes and thicknesses. Some produce lone flowers embedded in the sea of green:
Others prefer to present them high above leaves:
Although yellow is the most common color...
...white is frequent too. Displayed up high:
or densely packed down low.
I know there are red too, but I'm yet to find one like that in nature.
Bonus flower - a Blue Congo potato:
Hopefully it won't end just with pretty flowers, I'm hungry for some violet fries :o)
