Mushrooms growing on an old stumpsteemCreated with Sketch.

in smartphonephotography •  6 years ago

Walking a trail down to the creek I came across some tree stumps and many downed trees. One of them was growing some moss on it alot with some kind of wood loving mushroom.

There was mostly fallen leaves from the forest around. So I wonder if the mycelium is connected under all these leaves and we are seeing the "tip of the iceberg" so to say.

I snapped this on #smartphone so figured it would be great for today which is #smartphonephotography its weekly project.

I love fungi. They have evolved so rapidly that crude oil will never again be created in its natural form. Reason being modern fungi decompose wood so fast it can’t transform into crude oil.

@balticbadger I think you're on to something. Mushrooms may be one of the next big secrets in decomposing materials. It's been doing it for millions of years without our help.

What can this mushroom eat?

@toufiqurrahman32 probably not by humans but I'm sure the forest animals eat it. I do not know which one it is so I wouldnt risk it.

Why are fungi so photogenic? What is about them? Nice shot.

@momzillanc I think their unique structure makes them fascinating. Just like cactus, they look so different from normal plants.

Thanks alot
