The Smart Phone Class System

access at the price of access

I've not had a smart phone since the iPhone 5.

I'm not really completely sure how it happened but I've been without a decent smartphone with a decent camera for quite some time now, I've had some other phones within the last few years but they have either broken or I've had to send them back for whatever reason.

I've been surviving on an smashed ipad 2 wifi and cellular device teathered to my iMac, without it I'm pretty screwed for internet. I really need to replace it as soon as possible, even if it's just the same type. The ideal would be to swap it out for a sweet 10.1" iPad mini. But i guess i need to adjust my expectations and anyway no point putting a brand new ipad in the roof like the current one, nah anything higher than what i have right now would be perfect.

Recently i found that if you have an iPhone4 you can't upgrade higher than ios7 and I'm sure that gap between iPhones is getting closer all the time, basically your going to need to keep feeding the digital beast if you want not only the latest and greatest but also now we have another problem, you simply cannot get software you used to use for the platform your on.

That's right, iOS 8, 9, 10 only programs just might not be supported on your device you have in the very near future especially as most applications are moving towards a 64 bit AppStore (at least for all things apple) and yes i know everyone else with android phones pretty much have programs that are universal across the various fragmented android versions.

Kinda not sure how i feel about it to be honest, i don't want to play that game of always needing to upgrade my hardware to be able to use the software that i use on a daily basis. I guess technology waits for nobody, but it certainly makes me feel that I'm part of some smart phone class system. Not being able to install apps because of the IOS version was a bit of a shock to me.

In the same way that the homeless guy i spoke to a decade ago was having issues with getting a job because it paid only with cheques and he had no fixed address to get a bank account it seems we are never going to be too far away from the requirement to have the latest phone, bracelet or implant. The price of being able to sustain ourselves.

Maybe blockchain then is one of the saving graces, maybe that won't change so rapidly in the methods that we access it and we can have a relatively painless method that always grows with the technology, maybe that will be the way that governments will stop our access. Only certain on chip methods will be able to access certain block chains.

The downside of having a personal computer in your pocket is relying it in the ways we do already i guess - banking, mapping, the list goes on. Is it time maybe that the crypto verse started building out the roadmap for an open source phone that has a default list of living apps that move with us and our needs, I'm sure you could really hone the niche ways people use their phones - a phone with everything on to support wallets, upgradable, digital survival in the 22nd century, i can see the holographic adverts now.
