Manual Curation & Changes to Bid-Bot

in smartsteem •  5 years ago  (edited)

Greetings Steemians,

since the HF21 went live, promotion purchases have been going slower than usual, which results in idle voting power & less revenue for delegators.

While we've already increased the revenue percentage to 115%, (+15% out of our own pocket) we're currently not planning on sharing curation rewards due to various issues this would bring to the table.

Manual Curation

However, our team has started to manually review and curate posts, when the voting power hits 100% and idles.

These manual curation's are targeting mainly posts that bring value to Steem, are of exceptionally high quality or of some other significance. (for example to retain activity by rewarding good content from new users)

On top of that, as delegators, your posts will also be prioritized. Essentially this means: if you're a delegator to @smartsteem with at least 500 SP and you're actively producing content, there's a chance you will receive an upvote. This also includes resteems. So even if you're not producing content yourself, you can still resteem other posts, which have a chance to receive upvotes. All of this is transparent via our feed: https://steemit.com/@smartsteem/feed

We'll also be monitoring @steemtank's feed to reward developers actively working on & for Steem.

Moving away from bidding model

We've removed the bid-bot model, where bids are processed after every round. Instead, if you send a transfer to @smartsteem now, similar as with buying from vote-sellers, you'll receive your promotion as soon as it's processed with a fixed ROI.

We wanted to do this step for quite a while but decided to do so now, to have a great buffer for finding curation worthy content.

Our Promotion Recommendations still apply.

We apologize for the reduced revenue and will keep you updated on the progress we're making towards a total revamp of our promotion services (No ETA yet).

Thank you,
Team Smartsteem

This seems to be in conflict with this.

... there's a chance you will receive an upvote.

Prioritized and "having a chance" are on two opposite sides of the spectrum of likelihood.

I hope you dont just vote the delegators regardless of the content.

This change by a bot i can support. Not like the Stuff Booster is doing.
Im actually hoping that bots will slowly shift into "Curation services". Been talking about it for a while and i think Pharesim mentioned something a few days ago about trying it. I havent done the math to see if its possible but if a high curation eff. can be maintained i dont see why not.

This change is #newsteem. You have my vote.

Im actually hoping that bots will slowly shift into "Curation services".

I agree with you, it's a difficult thing to do but I think they have to try. It can be a way to save the investor and give the right reward to those who produce valid content.

Well stated. There's going to be a lot of experimentation in reaction to the HF. The projects with the best ideas to adapt will be the ones that survive and thrive, this is in contrast to the ones that lash out at the community in their death throws.

This seems like a good step in that direction. This goes way beyond simply implementing anti-abuse measures you should have already implemented months and months ago.

Nothing regarding anti-abuse is simple. A user can behave completely fine for a year, and out of a sudden promote content that is clearly classified as abuse. You might still remember the banfield bathroom incident.

However, there are plans in the works to fight abuse like never before. Whether those are successful is not guaranteed, but we're doing our best.

There are accounts that just milk rewards with junk such as one letter comments. They are obvious candidates for downvotes, as are those giving themselves huge self votes when nobody else is engaging with them. Your downvotes can make a huge difference in freeing up rewards for more worthy content.

Thanks for your recent support.

I obliterated that account

I'm low on voting power, but there's always !BEER

Thanks for that. I see a few serial abusers are getting hammered. Good to see whales cleaning the place up.

To view or trade BEER go to steem-engine.com.

Hey @themarkymark, here is your BEER token. Enjoy it!

Do you already know our BEER Crowdfunding

Agreed, but there's a wide gap between attempting to and not bothering to. If that is the plan then I applaud those efforts.

Once we've done the re-design, we'll be monitoring the progress. If the situation does not improve, moving away from the current promotion model is of course on the table. But we're confident to be able to improve things.

Regardless, this is still great news!

Prioritizing means that delegators have a higher chance of being discovered, as we're watching https://steemit.com/@smartsteem/feed more than the new section. Our feed is filled with post from delegators, as we're automatically following delegators with 500+ SP delegated. We might reduce the number, to not punish smaller users.

But overall these are all are dynamic changes in reaction on the post-HF21/22 situation.

I know what you wanted to say, just needed you to clarify. 😉

Thank you for the boost @smartsteem I appreciate it highly. :D

Good to see the new step ahead👍 manual curation is what people hoping to see after hf21

Good to see smartsteem involved in manual curation. It is time to get the best content to the top of the pile.

@smartsteem Thanks for solving my issue

You should have received it now.

This is good Initiative to support quality content in the platform.

I'm glad to read this. While the prices are low, I'm buying as much STEEM as I can, and I would like to invest a moderate amount into something for a ROI, while the majority I stake for use.

Definitely keeping an eye on what's going on out there.... I like the idea of delegating to a service that is actively involved in manual curation and helping improve the quality of content across the board.

Great work!

Thank you, that's good news @smartsteem thank you for your support :)

It's going to be tough to please everyone but you are doing something positive. Please give some votes to posters who create good stuff, and not just because their perceived rewards are going to be the highest.

We desperately need NEW people here. At this time, I know just about everyone of any significance, I don't want this to be the case, .. this is something I'll be posting about soon.

Glad to see Smartsteem is improving their habits from voting without screening to a voting good content and manually curate stuff, the next couple of months will be hard for bidbots as the community tries to reach a consensus of what it likes or doesn't like on the platform. It's hard to tell what will happen, let's wait and see...

Let's trade.

Solutions for Steem or delegation.

Sounds both reasonable and good for Steemit.

I did noticed smartsteem now manual curates, but seems it hasn't changed to fully manual curation yet, but probably at least a step forward already. Although I haven't studied how you guys curate manually yer, I hope you guys help with more underpaid authors, good luck.
