Mahendra Singh Dhoni, affectionately known as MS Dhoni, is a former Indian cricket captain and one of the most successful Indian cricket players in history. Born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Dhoni had a keen interest in cricket from an early age.
Dhoni started his career as a train ticket examiner (TTE) in the Indian Railways, while playing cricket for his state team. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in December 2004, in an ODI against Bangladesh. However, he did not make much of an impact in his early matches.
In 2005, Dhoni played a crucial innings of 148 runs against Pakistan, which helped India win the match. This performance earned him his first Man of the Match award and marked the beginning of his rise to fame.
In 2007, Dhoni was appointed as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the inaugural T20 World Cup. Under his captaincy, India won the tournament, and Dhoni became a household name in India. He was then appointed as the captain of the Indian ODI team in 2008.
In 2011, Dhoni led the Indian cricket team to victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Dhoni continued to lead the Indian cricket team in all formats until 2017, when he stepped down as the captain of the Indian Test team. In 2018, he announced his retirement from international cricket, after having played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for India.
Off the field, Dhoni has been associated with various brands and has been actively involved in social work. He has also invested in various businesses and has co-owned a football team, Chennaiyin FC, in the Indian Super League.
