Today I had to ask myself the question 'What would Dad do if he was here?'
Mom has been getting stronger and stronger as the days have been flying by. The place she is at is also taking its toll on her mental health. She is getting more and more depressed each day she is there.
The place she is at is not good at giving out information even when you ask point blank for it. To say they are slow in getting back to you with any information would be an understatement. Because of how the Rehabilitation Center was handling or not handling things for my Mom, it was way past time for me to step in.
My Father was not perfect by any means. He was human like the rest of us. He made a lot of mistakes in his life. Mistakes everyone that knew him well still deal with to this day.
On a positive note, my Father taught me that all people are the same no matter what they have or where they come from. It didn't matter if you wore a suit or rags, he respected people for just who they were. He trusted in people to be honest and good. It didn't always work in his favor but he was the better man for it.
He taught me to stand up for what was right. To not be bullied by others that thought they were better than you. He taught this by example every day. He never spoke badly about a person even if he knew they were in the wrong. He always took the high road. It was just who he was.
When it came to loved ones, he would move heaven and earth to help you. Though out my life I have had a lot of surgeries for many things. So many in fact that before each surgery we had a ritual. There was a fancy restaurant that we would go to when I was little as a family for special occasions.
They had a special strawberry shortcake that I loved. From my first surgery and every one after that, until the restaurant closed, Dad and I would go there for lunch the day before my surgery just so I could have one of those special strawberry shortcakes.
He hated Hospitals, needles, and blood yet he was always the first person in my Hospital room after a surgery. That was just who he was. The wonderful side of who he was.
Today when faced with frustration and anger at what I was seeing happening to one of the strongest women I know I called on one of the kindest men I knew for help.
"What would Dad do?"
Mom will be coming home this Friday from the Rehabilitation Center and then the real fun begins!

I am so happy that she is going to be home. The mental state is so important and when people are not happy where they are, it makes them more sick.
I am so glad that you are standing up for her!! My friend was very good at that. she refused to allow people to neglect people in her care.
