The first time I read this phrase was on a tee shirt. I thought, who would want to wear that as a badge of honour? It was on a Patagonia shirt and as a brand I respect I thought I’d look into it.
what would you think if you read “Conquerors of the Useless”? So what’s it about?
“Conquerors of the useless…that’s what we were. You learn that what's important is how you got there, not what you've accomplished” Yvon Chouinard - founder of Patagonia Clothing.
The point, some things that might seem or even be useless are still inherently worthwhile. Even if you attain nothing of tangible value there is still something to gain by climbing mountains, going on adventures, exploring or wherever/whatever else you want to aim this idea at.
There is a Netflix Documentary(2010) ‘180° South - Conquerors of the useless’ that retraces Yvon Chouinard’s journey from California to Patagonia, Chile. Now on my ‘watch asap list’. Have you seen it?
