Leandro Requena, an Argentine goalkeeper, scored an incredible goal during Cobresal's 3-1 victory over Colo-Cola in Chile's top-tier football league on Saturday. In what initially appeared to be a harmless goal kick, Requena managed to hit the ball over the head of the goalkeeper, who had been left far outside of the penalty area. As the ball crossed the line, the goalkeeper stumbled in his attempt to chase it down.

TNT Sports Chile reported that Requena's goal was a record-breaking 101 meters, which if verified by the Guinness World Records would break the previous record of 96 meters set in 2021 by Tom King of Newport County in England's fourth tier. Requena said that he had asked the club's manager, Juan Silva, if the record application would be made, and he had been told that it would be.

It is now necessary to determine the exact distance of the pitch. Silva stated that the Chilean Football Federation had contacted him to verify the dimensions of the pitch. FIFA, the international soccer governing body, suggests that a professional football pitch should measure 105 meters in length by 68 meters in width. Therefore, the area of the pitch should be greater than 100 meters. Requena stated that he was content with the outcome of the event, not only for his own sake, but for the sake of Chilean football.

Requena suggested that the altitude of Cobresal's stadium, which stands at 2,400 meters, may have been a contributing factor to his remarkable goal. He stated that he had taken the kick quickly, as he had done many times before, in order to catch the opponent off guard, and that it had come out a bit stronger than usual. He further stated that the first thing he did as the ball left his foot was to hold his head, as there were two players who were in a good position to counterattack, and he realized that the ball had gone long. He further noted that when the ball bounced and went past Brayan, he thought it could have gone in. CNN reported that Guinness World Records had not yet received any applications for this record.
