We need to practice telling the truth, regardless of whether it feels good or not.

I mentioned a few weeks ago, that it seems everyone is fighting everyone, these days. I was thinking of cat fights among conservatives, at the time. Now it's a squabble among apologists over William Lane Craig's view of Adam and Eve. (Before that, over the flawed legacy of Ravi Zacharius.)

People do like to fight. Put all the orthodox, of any party, on a desert island, and within a month they'll create a thousand factions. (Even if there are only 100 people!) It's human nature.

And as usual, everyone is right about everything. Especially me. :- )

But let's be fair. Many of the concerns are honest. Bodies need to define themselves, and protect themselves from harm. "In" and "out" have to mean something, or viruses will puncture the cell wall, and the cell will die. We see that at the southern border right now. The Church is no less vulnerable.

So I don't mean to "call balls and strikes." But we need to keep an eye on our own motives, whichever side we join, or whether we piously (or fearfully!) keep our thoughts to ourselves.

"Speaks the truth in love" seems to be the right rule, again.

The nature of social media encourages the tribal blood sport of human sacrifice. Post your attack on social media, and a hundred people echo you, and those who don't dare, get shouted down or accused of heresy. Those who think otherwise are often afraid to dissent, so "the post" becomes a magnet for affirmation, whether sensible or unfair, well-intentioned or malevolent. None of that matters: what counts is whether "you agree."

Good! We all need to man up and learn to resist the World, the Flesh, and the Devil, even to be decent human beings, let alone saints. We need to practice telling the truth, regardless of whether it feels good or not. The cowardice and meanness of our age gives us the opportunity to grow spiritually, if we take it.

Social Media is what moralists used to call "the World." And the World is a school for souls. "So be careful little mouth, what you say!"
