Smith, widely regarded as the father of modern economics, was a remarkable social philosopher.

The only social institution he disliked more than big business, was big government, and the two together were doubly toxic.

Big business without government support, in spite of it’s ugliness, would do much good for the average person, whereas big government was the road to poverty and oppression.
