Poverty is a condition in which people own very little.

A better explanation for past American prosperity is that a century ago, Americans had a better distribution of the means of production (ownership) and that this widespread ownership created prosperity.

At best social democracy is able to redistribute the wealth created by others. The problem is that social democracy eventually starts destroying the wealth the free market economics created.

Social democracy has, on a few occasions, resulted in a one time decrease in poverty. But once social democracy takes hold and becomes the norm, societies fall into a downward spiral.

For example, social democracy was tried in Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea and Somalia. These places saw sharp decreases in the standard of living after a few decades.

In the United States, one sees that communities where social democracy is strongest end up with a bigger gap between rich and poor. Notably, Social Democracy is very strong in Detroit, Chicago and now California.

These areas saw a temporary drop in poverty, but this drop was followed by decades of decline.

In California, there is widespread homelessness and tent cities.

The Federal Government funded social democracy with $21 Trillion dollars in deficit spending. The federal government is currently paying $241 billion to service this debt. That money goes to an entrenched ruling elite.

One can't tax the ruling elite because the ruling elite (by definition) are the people who rule. Are you really so naive as to believe that you can tax rich Democrats like Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi or even Bernie Sanders? The only people who Social Democrats can tax is the Middle Class. But Social Democracy has essentially already destroyed the American Middle Class.

I used to believe in social democracy. Every thing I've seen done in the name of social democracy has done greater harm than good.
