“It can be hard to grow your social media account depending on the content and dedication,” Je La Boulden, junior psychology and criminology major with over six thousand Instagram followers, said.

A big part of social media is personal branding, which is the way that you portray yourself to others. You can do this by having specific colors, fonts, designs and topics you use throughout your social media.

Does it matter if your content is branded or not? Dr. Nune Grigoryan, assistant professor of communication at Cabrini, believes it does:

“It definitely does matter,” she says. “If you have branded content, it makes your voice more recognizable.”
Senior digital media manager at Cabrini and alum, Emily Rose Rowan, agrees.
“It’s taken me a really long time to grow the Cabrini University account,” Rowan said. “You have to make sure your content stands out because there is so much competition.”

Rowan manages three different Instagram accounts: @cabriniuniversity, @err_photography (her photography page) and her private account. She says that it’s really important to find your niche.

A good tip is to not put too much attention on the analytics, because it could make you more stressed about posting.
“Sometimes I’m like ‘this picture is going to be seen by so many people,’’’ Leigha Sepers, freshman communications and secondary education major, said. “But it got to the point where I thought whatever I’m just going to post what I want and it’ll make me happy and that’s all that matters.”

In some cases, people gain a following for simply their vibrant personality or attractiveness.

“I truthfully do not know how I grew my account,” Boulden said. “I think a lot of people tuned in for my story times that I used to have that were funny, but other than that I have not done much.”

A lot of people want to get famous now, especially on TikTok.
“TikTok is one of the fastest, in terms of growing your account because people usually love short videos,” Grigoryan said. “The algorithm [on TikTok] is a lot more flexible.”

One popular influencer, Kaiti Yoo, who has almost 500,000 Youtube subscribers, considers “a catchy personality, unique editing and content value” as the key factors that led to her success.

“In order to blow up on [Youtube], you need to have at least two of these,” Yoo said in a Youtube video.

Think about what your interests are and how you can incorporate that into your social media accounts.
Decide what your personal branding is.

Ask your audience or followers what they like and do not like to receive feedback and constructive criticism.
Post regularly, keep your content fun, interesting and not repetitive.
Connect with your audience.

Keep this in mind, Boulden said:
“When you have an abundance of followers, especially on a public page, anyone can see what you post,” Boulden said. “It is just a matter of being mindful and for me I am raw and authentic, but others may like to keep a conservative image.”

Sepers said that maintaning who you are is the most important part of growing your social media account:
“Be yourself. Don’t try to be someone else because transparency is really key.”

So when I started using Linkedin in 2014. I was pursuing my MBA and thought to follow my target companies and connect with people in my industry. I was also looking for knowledge, internships, and jobs. These were the real reasons that pulled me on Linkedin. Today it has been almost 7 years for me on LinkedIn.

I am proud to tell you that I have used Linkedin 360 degree. As a student, job seeker, working professional, salesperson, brand manager, content creator, and entrepreneur.

When I was using LinkedIn in these professions I also explored Linkedin premium and Linkedin ads for the same.
How did I reach from 0 to 40,000 followers?

Firstly, before I show you the steps, I just want to show you the road map of my LinkedIn journey. Everything I did on my way to 40,000+ followers, I was not all that good at the beginning, I didn't post as I was supposed to, but it was all part of the process of my 7 years journey of my LinkedIn growth.

Gaining a lot of followers on LinkedIn is quite tasking, but I was ready to put effort and committed to being consistent in what I used to do, to attain my goals. I can discuss these activities in pointers so that I can tell you what all you need to do for gaining followers on LinkedIn.

But first, let me tell you a fact. You should have an intention to help and build community. If you just want followers you need to give them a reason to follow you.

Be active for at least 30 minutes a day:

You have to be very active on your LinkedIn account, you have to be active for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. Being active is a very high-end component in getting followers on LinkedIn. Because you are there to do some activities hence you need to show up.
Post regularly:

Posting regularly is part of your consistency on LinkedIn and it also shows that you are participating in the conversation. You should post at least 3 to 7 times a week. Now when I say post content you must have an accurate content strategy to add value to the life of readers. They must like your content, then only they will follow you.
Engagement:

You can increase your engagement through likes, comments, shares. You can also interact with your followers by liking, commenting, and sharing their posts. On Linkedin, I have always believed in building connections with relevant people. (Relevant people I mean to say are, those people who are my target audience and my community.
Optimize and Updated profile:

In every stage of my journey, I needed to get noticed by my target audience for that I optimized my profile, wrote an attractive headline, drafted a handsome and convertible summary for the about section. I claimed my Linkedin URL. It's necessary to be visible in search results.

Analyze:

I used to do a lot of analysis. Whatever I used to do for example, before accepting connection requests I used to check the relevancy. Before posting any content I checked multiple times that is it going to help someone or is worth sharing? I even prefer analyzing the performance of my Linkedin to the date.

Patience:

This is the most crucial key. I had enough patience. You have to be very patient when trying to get followers because not everything will work for you, not everyone who views your posts will follow you. You have to be very patient, build a bond with your followers and build up your followers patiently.

You can't grow your LinkedIn in just one day, some take months, years but they still get it done, the thing you should watch out for is your growth on LinkedIn.
