A society in decline. That is what we see on a daily basis. We are reached the point where we betray others, even loved ones, is something normal. An example of this is becoming more common to be unfaithful in relationships; as well as betray a friend.
We must accept, the society we live in is getting worse and worse. As a sign of this. We have various cases of women who only seek at the time of deciding to marry, corrupt politiciants, among many others.
Perhaps one of the cases that expose more extreme this in the history of the humanity, is the Junko Furuta. A japanese woman of the 18 years old, she was abducted by 4 mens, raped for them and at least 96 other men, in addition to being tortured in various other ways and killed. Case in which these 4 subjects were found guilty of kidnapping and "causing wound caused the death", senteced to 40 years in prision. But the dregading thing is that the people of the comunity knew about it and did nothing, out the fear because of the relationship of those guys with the mafia.
