Pada Januari 1950 Presiden Soekarno dan Ibu Negara Fatmawati berkunjung ke India dalam rangka memenuhi undangan Presiden Rajendra Prasad untuk menghadiri perayaan hari kemerdekaan India. Setelah itu Presiden Soekarno diundang oleh Perdana Menteri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ke rumahnya. Dalam perjalanan saat mengunjungi Taj Mahal ban mobil yang dinaiki Presiden Soekarno kempes, sambil menunggu ban mobilnya diganti Presiden Soekarno meminjam sepeda onthel dari warga setempat dan menaikinya dengan Ibu Negara Fatmawati.
