Solar Panels are Obsolete

Powerwall 2 and the Solar Roof

Tesla electric car company released information on October 16, 2016 informing stock holders that if Telsa was allowed to purchase Solar City they would implement a new technology called Solar Roofs that may revolutionize the industry.

The are designed to look like traditional roofing and yet have small solar panels within each panel. The solar elements can be removed and replaced when needed. According to Elon Musk the cost is equivalent to a traditional roof.

The roofs are beautiful, better, affordable and easy to install.

Installations will begin in mid-2017.

Solar panels are obsolete, use solar panels instead!

There have been solar roofing materials for 20 years now. They are not that much more expensive, but they are a pain to wire. Also, since they are integrated into a roofing product they are usually not as efficient per sq. foot.

Placing solar panels above a roof is lot easier for wiring, and also you do not have to worry about the membrane of the roof having to be punctured by wires.

I am glad Elon is bringing more awareness and ease to the solar industry, but there is nothing revolutionary here.

Yes and no. No one I know wanted a solar roof until I showed them the video. And the fact that you can replace the solar element from the shingle itself and put a new one in is revolutionary. As the solar capacity increases you can replace them. The shingles can be removed and replaced. The roof lasts 50 years instead of 25. The unsightly solar panels are no longer required and the price is comparable to a standard roof installation.

To quote Donald Trump, Wrong. You haven't done your research. You assume that changing the function isn't "new" although it is radical. I almost didn't respond at all because you are obviously either dim wited or a troll.

Pardon? Do you have the correct comment? You already responded once.

Since I am very well versed in solar panels, from design to installation, there is very little I do not know. There is always something new, and so I keep an open mind.

I really do not know what you are trying to say.
