Solus Budgie 4.0
So, I finally got bored with Manjaro KDE and I decided to make the switch to another rolling-release distro, Solus. Solus doesn't have a stable version of KDE... yet. So, I decided to go with their flagship desktop environment, Budgie which is based on GTK 3. They were planning a port to QT, but that has since been cancelled.
Thus far, I love it! It's nice switching up things once in awhile. GTK tends to be a bit more resource heavy than KDE/QT, but Budgie is still very snappy and I haven't noticed any lag or any problems whatsoever. When using Gnome in the past I noticed some slight lagging when doing more intensive work, but I have yet to encounter that with Budgie.
Another benefit of GTK based desktops is the wider availability of nice themes. GTK lacks in terms of customization as compared to KDE, but it makes up for it in some other areas. Overall, I'm satisfied and I think the change of scenery is nice. I plan on switching back to KDE eventually (when Solus has a stable version ready to go).
If you haven't checked out Solus yet and you're a Linux fan like me, give it a try at https://getsol.us/
