"But that is what moderation is for, you know you have people who content moderate all the time and they really put themselves through a fair bit of shit."
Now, we may not have dealt with the sort of tragedy he mentions. It's terrible and just remember that no matter how toxic social media can get. It's not worth ending your life.
Take a break. Go make some origami, fly a kite, play some video games or whatever. We all need a little breather sometimes.
We have had our fair share of shit from people for trying to take their spam or other thinly veiled attempts to take from our reward pool w as minimal effort as possible.
Sometimes they get mad and do things like this:
Yes, retaliation downvotes are commonplace to the Steemian that takes negative curation seriously.
Considering more important matters..
How would Steem respond to a scenario similar to the kid from Brazil that committed suicide live?
I know concerning video it is moot point as it isn't hosted on chain but I am curious what you think your be the appropriate course if someone decided to link illegal content on the chain.
Let's say it is a GIF that most front ends are able to render. I am certain that the witnesses have some recourse. Perhaps, a patch could be applied to catch any RPC call containing the offending link & sanitizing responses.
It could replace by a placeholder image such as a quarantine logo suggestion the content has been removed. I suppose in the more drastic case such as illegal content that is encoded on chain. It may require some consensus action unless there is another mechanism. If you know it, please share.
Anyways was watching this video during my break after spending a few good hours coding. I felt what SomeOrdinaryGamer said about content moderators.
Now, I can't say we have seen anything as terrible as stuff he mentioned on other olat forms but my hope is we keep it that way
SteemYaLater Updates:
- UTF encoding issue with File Hash Function resolved
- Compare hash function added and tested
- Deduplication - obtaining hash values of all stored images and comparing to remote versions to prevent redownload. Symbolic links placed instead with relative path.
