Sonargaon, the name of the place comes from Suvarnagrama from the 6th-century CE. Sonargaon had become the most prominent city in the era, when Isa Khan made it the capital of Bhati region of Bengal. After the rise of Dhaka in the second half of the 19th-century, Sonargaon lost its eminence.
There is a folk museum, which is carrying the glorious heritage and history of those days. To reach Sonargaon, take the Chittagong highway from Dhaka and follow the directions/signs. This place is very pleasant. Take an hour trip to Meghna river which is just few miles from Panamnagar.
