Day 12: A Song from Your Pre-teen Years.

1986 was the last year I qualified as a “pre-teen”. That summer I turned 12. 12 brought increased freedom to my life. I started babysitting. My friends and I would ride bikes to locations faraway from home. 12 was also the start of the Celebrity Crush years.

Enter Top Gun and Tom Cruise

The summer of 1986 I saw Top Gun 12 times!!! 😂🤣 My dad seemed to think it had to do with fighter jets doing aerial stunts (and started taking me to air shows) but it was all about Tom. I had a crush as did my two besties. So being independent 12 year olds we often got dropped at the cinema (parent free) where we would go watch Top Gun again. 😄

Anyone half alive back then knows the movie was a box office hit, but the soundtrack album was also a HUGE success. Kenny Loggins sang two (maybe three) songs on the soundtrack. The biggest of which is my song for today.

I would obsessively watch the MTV’s Top 10 songs of the day countdown just so I could record this video onto a VHS tape! 😄 I got a haircut and perm just like the leading lady in Top Gun. My friends and I bought posters... so many posters.

My room, first boyfriend.... but could he compete with the posters behind his head? 🤣
