Adiós a Aretha Franklin, la reina emérita del soul. La emblemática cantante estadounidense ha fallecido a los 76 años víctima de un cáncer de páncreas después de toda una vida dedicada elaborar himnos coreados por generaciones. Nació en Memphis (Tennessee) y empezó su carrera siendo prácticamente una niña cuando su padre Clarence LeVaughn Franklin, el predicador negro más famoso de Detroit, detectó su potencial. Grabó su primer disco cuando tenía 14 años con JVB/Battle Records titulado The gospel soul of Aretha Franklin y en 1960 fichó por Columbia Records y se mudó a Nueva York para aprender canto y baile.
