Rolling back your own source code.

It’s hard to admit some times but when invoking your own headspace for free writing can expose a lot of things. My relationship with blogging for instance has rapidly changed over the last year because of my modding for a dapp on the blockchain.

it’s been very interesting to both look inwards and be on the periphery to see what makes me retreat and what makes me engage — the whole ‘switch to blockchain’ and away from centralised and decentralisedu platforms really did come with caveats I did not expect but am in some way hugely thankful for.

but also, the slow hum of the climate. ..

I think because of the insane amount (thankfully) coverage of climate change activity that’s going on right now (415ppm people!) that’s been really impacting my thought process on things too. I want to make adjustments, more adjustments, for the last three years I’ve been removing, minimising and building in redundancy as best I can — I need to do more of course, a lot more, we all do, from our behaviours to the things we buy and the way we generate our own power on our own local micro grids.

So you could say my focus has been else where right now, I think the listing on DAYBIT of steemhunt as well had an impact. I tend to put a ‘line in the sand’ when it comes to projects as while I’m still a mod and will be involved well after the third part of the white paper is done it did have the usual energy vacuum that working on a project for a long time has — felt very much like when we do an ‘ontheground’ event — you prep, you deliver, you reflect and it really drains my energy because of all the stages, I guess I’ve been in reboot.

“I’m going back to the start/source”

Before we started getting into the blockchain me and dayle had a variety of projects that enabled us to ‘get by’ — of course we kinda got destroyed by the google panda situation and changes on upwork but we found a way through.

I’m now in the process of reworking the websites, templates and hosting infrastructure to make it a lot more reliable and easier to backup/restore and hopefully get a bit of a speed boost in the process, of course there are ‘elements’ of steem in there too as a project and a token.

I’m guessing that this will kickstart me to start learning those lessons and making that condenser frontend I’ve always wanted to see on steem, I could never get my head around why the ‘whitelist’ of embeds never had all the modern day platforms out there today, it just kinda stopped.

The tech is good, use the tech.

In the few years (2/3?) that I’ve been here I’ve really enjoyed using the platform, it’s been pretty damn reliable and solid in operation, I mean who can really knock the 3 second, free transfers, it really made me happy that such a thing exists better than trying to find a western union and getting charged the damn earth for it!

The tech is good, it’s getting better all the time, some might say that should have been a year back but it’s finally coming together now, MIRA will allow a lot more people to spin up witnesses instances too. I can also see maybe a culture of speed demons trying to build the fastest witnesses, low latency, super ssd tuning, maybe adding to the MIRA codebase in the process.

either way, a distributed chain with 500+ nodes to me seems like a better redundancy runway than relying on one entity to cover everything, maybe we need more image hosting elements too, take the load off and use our own locations, maybe even a dedicated chain like SIAcoin?

Gifts cards were the way in

With the bitcoin price over $8k now, places accepting them indirectly via wallets that work with normal systems I think everyone is right, we probably won’t see BTC ever drop below £5k again (I mean who knows right) but the volume and sentiment seem there, if people can pay for things digitally and have more governance on their financial statements and remove middlemen in the process, that has to be good for anyone wanting more control — you learn so much about yourself and what you value more, how you spend your time and what on.

Recycled Humans

It’s like a switch that was flipped is now blinking daily. I’ve become more awareness of my consumption patterns, we want to throw out all the plastics and change to bamboo (but will the plastic be recycled?) I wanna buy my food without packaging, I will learn more about batteries, solar and electric transportation. I feel like I want to do my bit just that bit more, it’s always there daily reminding me when I see another 415ppm report in the news.

I’d rather operate from a place that it’s already too late and the cascade effect is already in place and so it’s about optimising what’s left, for me it adds another level of urgency to it — it’s why I’ve been stocking up on food and such like, buying time in some ways i guess, we all are, i know some people are embracing it differently to help their own bubble but i wanna be less of the problem and spread more optimise your life tips as we step through.

Daily digests and the near future

Residuals day today, mid month, in a better place than a usual may so I’ve been surprised by that, I’ll be able to re-use some of the funds this month to move other areas forward, maybe I’ll improve some hosting that will allow me to micro manage that better — I’m certainly gonna do more steem video support and i’m already putting together the bones on some image/video styling for twitter on the daily, just need to setup the RSS feeds for it.

Ok, time to enjoy this weather a little more!

the steem teeshirt designed arrived from latvia today, they look hella rad, pick one up at beeb.ee -- if ya wanna, no problem if not! :)
